Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort
Last stay: August 2024
The Hotel
Iāve visited Monte Carlo several times before, but this was my first stay at the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel. My initial impression upon arrival was very positive. However, there were a few minor issues during check-in. Since I arrived a bit early, I wasnāt surprised that my room wasnāt ready yet, which is common. However, I was expecting to be able to use the hotel facilities, such as the pool, while I waited. Instead, I was told I couldnāt access any of the amenities until I had my room key, which seemed unusual. In general, I found the rooms to be a bit outdated and feel they could use some upgrading.
The Location
Monte Carlo Bay is situated on Avenue Princesse Grace, just a 10-minute (shuttle) ride from the heart of Monaco. The hotel offers a convenient shuttle service throughout the day, though it stops around 7 p.m. Thereās plenty to do around the hotel, including enjoying the spa and (in)door pool. I especially loved being so close to the ocean and enjoying the stunning views of Monte Carlo. Also the outdoor pool with a sandy floor was really special.
Style & Character
Architect India Mahdavi designed The Monte-Carlo Beach with a blend of open, airy spaces and a Mediterranean-inspired palette of deep blue, white, brick red, and beige. This modern seaside hotel also showcases porthole windows and many private terraces, adding to its unique charm.
The roomsĀ
Unfortunately, the rooms felt a bit too much like ‘Ikea’ to me. For a five-star hotel, I expected a more luxurious touch. I was also disappointed that I couldnāt enjoy my morning coffee on the balcony, as the hotel only provided paper cups for brewing coffee. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Dining & Drink Venues
During my stay, I dined at the outdoor restaurant by the pool for lunch on the day I arrived. The food and service were excellent, and the setting, with its stunning view of the Mediterranean Sea, was absolutely breathtaking.
Service & Facilities
Monte Carlo Bay offers so many facilities that you hardly need to leave the hotel. My personal favorites were the outdoor pool with sandy floor. Also I enjoyed the direct sea access. With a Michelin-starred restaurant, a casual dining option, a bar, and a casino, thereās plenty to keep you entertained in the evenings as well.
Conclusion
Although it’s a five-star hotel in a beautiful location, I felt the room quality didnāt quite justify the high nightly rate. Because of this, my overall rating is no higher than 7/10. I shared my feedback with the hotel, and they informed me that room renovations are planned soon. Iād definitely like to return once the updates are complete.
