I was warmly welcomed by the Executive Assistant Manager, Mrs. Miriam Qallouj, whose personal attention set the tone for an exceptional stay. The property exudes timeless elegance with its Belle Époque charm, perfectly situated by the lake with stunning views. One of the highlights was being invited for a refined aperitivo with antipasti on the terrace — the view over Lake Lugano combined with the elegant setting and gracious company made it a memorable experience.

The Location

Ideally positioned along Lugano’s lakeside promenade, the hotel offers breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Its location allows for easy access to the city’s boutiques, charming old town streets, and cultural attractions, while also being just a short drive from the Swiss–Italian border. Whether for a lakeside stroll, a boat trip, or an afternoon of exploring Lugano’s vibrant atmosphere, the Splendide Royal is perfectly placed to enjoy the best the region has to offer. It is a pity, however, that the hotel does not have direct lake access for swimming, which would have been a lovely addition to complement its stunning waterfront setting.

The Rooms

Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade. My room was spacious, beautifully appointed, and decorated in a classic style that perfectly complements the grandeur of the hotel. The attention to detail was evident, and the welcome amenities — a chilled bottle of champagne and a perfectly presented cake — were a delightful touch. The bed was comfortable, and the view from the room added to the sense of luxury and relaxation.

Breakfast was a refined and elegant experience, featuring fresh, high-quality products with an emphasis on presentation and flavour. The variety was well-curated, and the staff ensured everything was served with care. The aperitivo and antipasti, enjoyed on the terrace, showcased the quality and finesse of the hotel’s culinary offering while making the most of its spectacular lakeside setting.

In the evening, I had an amazing dinner at Le Veranda, where Mr. Andrea personally prepared a hand-made Beef Tartare at the table — a performance as much as a culinary delight. All dishes were executed to perfection, combining refined flavours with beautiful presentation, and the service throughout was impeccable, striking the ideal balance between professionalism and warmth.

Service & Facilities

The staff stood out for their warmth and professionalism, making every interaction feel personal and genuine. Small gestures — from the upgrade to the thoughtful in-room amenities — reflected a true commitment to guest satisfaction. The hotel’s public spaces, from the lobby to the terrace, are maintained to the highest standard and radiate a sense of history and refinement.

The SPA was an absolute highlight — a serene sanctuary offering state-of-the-art facilities, elegant design, and a calming atmosphere. Whether unwinding in the pool, enjoying the sauna, or relaxing in the lounge areas, it provided the perfect balance of luxury and wellbeing, making it an integral part of the overall experience.
