Known for its century-old charm and cinematic views, it has become a symbol of Italian lakeside glamour. With nightly rates firmly in the premium luxury bracket, the question naturally arises—was it worth the splurge? You’ll find my thoughts in the conclusion.

From the moment I arrived, the sense of heritage was immediately evident.. Staff welcomed me with the warmth of old-world hospitality, and in my suite, I was greeted with fresh flowers, a chilled bottle of champagne, and an inclusive minibar stocked with both soft drinks and premium spirits. These thoughtful touches instantly set the tone for an indulgent stay.

The Location

Hotel Tremezzo is ideally situated on the western shore of Lake Como, in the charming town of Tremezzo. The hotel offers spectacular views across the water to the famous Bellagio peninsula and the dramatic alpine foothills beyond. The lakeside promenade invites leisurely strolls, while nearby boat docks provide easy access for exploring Lake Como’s picturesque towns and villas. The location combines tranquility with convenience, making it perfect for those wanting both relaxation and exploration.

Style & Character

Reflecting its 1910 origins, Hotel Tremezzo elegantly balances historic grandeur with contemporary comfort. The building’s pastel-colored façades and lush gardens evoke classic Italian charm, while inside, rooms and public spaces blend vintage details with modern luxury. Rich textiles, ornate mirrors, and frescoed ceilings mingle with sleek furnishings and high-end finishes, creating an atmosphere that’s both romantic and sophisticated. It’s a place that honors tradition while embracing today’s traveler’s needs.

The rooms 

I stayed in one of the lake-facing suites—a room where Belle Époque elegance meets modern comfort. High ceilings, vintage-inspired furnishings, and a balcony framing postcard-perfect views made it feel both romantic and grand. The bed, as is often the case in Italy, leaned toward the firmer side; while many guests appreciate this for support, I personally prefer a softer mattress to truly sink into after a day of lakeside exploring. Still, the suite exuded charm and comfort, with thoughtful details like fresh flowers, a bottle of champagne on ice, and a fully stocked minibar including premium spirits—all included in the stay.

Dining & Drink Venues

Dinner at La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi was unfortunately not what I expected. Honestly, I left after receiving the first main course. It felt like a missed opportunity for the hotel—perhaps it simply wasn’t the best day for the chef. Given the hotel’s reputation and premium pricing, I hope to see a better experience on my next visit.

Service & Facilities

The service was attentive, polished, and consistently warm. From the concierge’s impeccable local recommendations to the discreet poolside attendants, the human touch was evident everywhere.

The indoor spa was nice and well-equipped, though I have experienced better facilities elsewhere. However, the outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens was absolutely stunning—a true highlight that perfectly complements the hotel’s lakeside setting.

Conclusion

Hotel Tremezzo is undoubtedly a beautiful and iconic retreat on Lake Como, with stunning views, charming architecture, and warm hospitality. The welcome with fresh flowers, champagne, and an inclusive minibar added a sense of exclusivity, and the outdoor pool and gardens are truly spectacular.

However, the price of the stay was quite high, and the dining experience unfortunately did not meet expectations—I left the restaurant after the first main course, which was disappointing at this level of luxury. Additionally, some small details throughout the stay, such as mattress firmness and minor service touches, left room for improvement.

For travelers seeking a picturesque and historic lakeside hotel, Tremezzo offers much to admire. But at its premium price point, these shortcomings mean it didn’t fully deliver the flawless experience I had hoped for.
